Creating alexa skills with .NET – part 2 Creating a new blank Alexa Skill.

In part 1 we covered the basic setup you need for this skill, we can now start to actually create one.

To create a new Alexa skill you must log in to the Amazon Developer console https://developer.amazon.com/. When logged in you can select the Alexa skill kit on the menu

When you get there there will an option for ‘create skill’ and then you will be presented with a screen where you can give your new skill a name and define some of it’s characteristics.

In our case we are going to select the skill being a ‘custom’ type and that we are going to provision our own endpoint.

The endpoint is where we call the .NET Core backend, if you are looking at this article and are NOT intending to use .NET core or AWS then you can leave it as ‘Alexa-Hosted’ but you will be somewhat limited in what you will be allowed, with your own endpoint you can actually use anything you wish to provide the alexa actions so long as your replies conform to the requirements of the alexa system.

Once you have selected your needed options you click on create skill to continue. This will give you the option of starting from scratch or using a predefined template, we will be starting from scratch.

So select ‘Choose’ and the skill will be created with the basic options preset for you but with nothing else populated yet

In part 3 we will create some specific actions for our skill
